Preventing Soul Illness

There are many ways we can prevent and avoid soul illnesses.  By honoring our soul’s purpose, as well as taking care of our body, mind, living space, work space, and any other environment, we can ensure good spiritual hygiene.  Here’s how that might like from a shamanic perspective:

  1. ​Cleansing: smudge yourself and your space regularly

  2. Empowerment:  meet your power animals and helping Spirits, they can provide much greater help and healing than we can hope to offer ourselves or to expect from other living beings

  3. Healing:  do your own inner work, or your outer world will reflect unresolved issues back to you

  4. Evolving:  be willing to change for the betterment of yourself, your family, your community, the place where you live, and all of life

  5. Harmony & Balance:  seek peace constantly rather than expecting it to hold still while time marches ever onward with the flowing river of life

In addition to these 5 steps, consider your words carefully.  By thinking them, you are adding Fire, the spark of your neurons​, to empower them.  By speaking them aloud, you add Fire, and also the Air of your breath, the Earth of your vocal cords, and the Water of your mouth, bringing them to life.  Intentions do not observe negative words, so saying something like “I did NOT mean it” isn’t very powerful.  You may express feelings without sending them like daggers out into the world.
